It's that time of year again where a large volume of travelers are wishing to take their pets to the sunny south.
Please be reminded:
1) Contact the CFIA (CANADIAN FOOD INSPECTION AGENCY) as soon as you are wishing to travel so they can provide the following information to you:
· Vaccination and treatment requirements and time frames for each country
· The documents necessary for completion
2) Many countries do not recognize a 3 year rabies vaccine and require a vaccination within 1 year
of travel and not less than 30 days prior to flight
3) Most countries require at least a 30 day period from the primary rabies vaccination to the date of arrival
4) Please ensure the microchip number appears on all documents
Although the clinic is familiar with the export requirements for some countries, others will require some researching by you and the CFIA in order to ascertain the most up-to-date information and documentation.
The attached link to the CFIA export site has helpful information for those countries where Canada has
negotiated agreements for pet travel.
The attached website provides some general guidelines for pet exports by country of destination. Please note that you should contact the embassy or consulate for complete pet export details.
And of course please call the clinic anytime for assistance.
